The Radios page shows how your radio connects. After installing, the getting started page walks through the setup wizard.
Which file you need
- Linux on a PC
-
Both PC files need Ubuntu 24.04 or newer, or Debian 13, Fedora 40, Mint 22 or another system built on a C library at least that new. Check with
ldd --version: you need 2.39 or higher. The AppImage carries its own libraries but not the system C library, so it needs the same. On an older system the package installs and the program then does not start. - Raspberry Pi
-
Pick the file named for the Pi OS your Pi runs (
cat /etc/os-releaseshows it). On a slower Pi, Settings ▸ Digital ▸ Decode depth ▸ Fast keeps FT8 and FT4 decoding in real time. - A Mac with an Intel chip
-
The download is for Apple Silicon only. An Intel Mac can build Nexus from source.
Installing
- Windows
-
Run the installer. It is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows Windows protected your PC: click More info, then Run anyway. The installer is about 250 MB because it carries WebView2 and Hamlib, so it works on a PC with no internet, and the WebView2 step takes a few quiet minutes.
- macOS
-
Open the disk image, drag Nexus into Applications and start it from there; updates need it in Applications. The first time, macOS asks for microphone access. That is the radio's receive audio, so allow it.
- Linux and Raspberry Pi
-
Make the AppImage executable and run it, or install a .deb with your package manager. Hamlib is inside every package, so there is nothing else to install.
Checking the download
The SHA-256 beside each file above is read from the same release feed the in-app updater uses, and the release page lists them too. Compare it with your copy:
Get-FileHash .\Nexus_1.21.0_x64-setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256 in PowerShell on Windows, or in a terminal on macOS and Linux:
shasum -a 256 Nexus_1.21.0_aarch64.dmg The two must match exactly. If they differ, delete the file and download it again.
Updates
Nexus updates itself on Windows, on macOS and in the Linux AppImage. A new version downloads in the background and waits for you to install it, and it holds off while you are transmitting, tuning, in a contact or calling CQ. Every update is signed and checked before it installs.
The .deb packages belong to your package manager, so there Nexus shows a notice when a new version is out. Your settings and log are kept apart from the program, and installing a new version over the old one leaves them as they are.
Other places to get it
Every release, with its notes and its SHA256SUMS file, is on GitHub Releases, and SourceForge carries the same files. The source code is on GitHub.
